Genius # https://www.youtube.com/watch/XK0GQYGU31k 00:00:00.160 my name is =
Jeremy Chara with me today is 00:00:02.560 Troy Ericson I want to give you =
a flyby 00:00:05.920 of of the world of 00:00:08.119 DeMark uh and we'll we=
'll introduce uh 00:00:11.880 why we're talking together how we got 00:00:1=
3.679 connected January of this year uh we 00:00:16.800 started getting som=
e emails so so uh 00:00:19.439 those of you that don't know I run a 00:00:2=
0.640 manage service Rider called via we 00:00:23.199 support a lot of cust=
omers primarily 00:00:25.279 education in in uh the world of schools 00:00:=
28.119 we started getting uh some emails from 00:00:30.119 our customer uh =
tickets coming in saying 00:00:32.320 hey uh we're using we're using this 0=
0:00:34.840 platform called School Messenger to 00:00:36.520 blast out emai=
led like news newsletters 00:00:38.920 and things like that to our parents =
and 00:00:41.120 they're all going to junk email and 00:00:43.320 what's go=
ing on how can you help and 00:00:45.960 normally that's one where we're li=
ke ah 00:00:47.960 you got to got to figure that on your 00:00:49.800 own b=
ut it was a a significant thing and 00:00:51.920 it was impacting some sign=
ificant people 00:00:53.960 at the organization so we're like ah 00:00:55.3=
20 we'll jump in so so we discovered that 00:00:58.680 in February now now =
remember this is 00:01:01.039 January in February uh Google Apple and 00:01=
:05.519 nameless other email providers were 00:01:07.479 going to start enf=
orcing this thing 00:01:09.600 called DeMark which I looked at and I'd 00:0=
1:12.119 heard about it but I never really uh put 00:01:14.479 two and two =
together and I thought okay 00:01:15.799 well that's in February but so we =
toyed 00:01:18.080 around with it we started uh playing 00:01:19.720 with i=
t and so we rolled out DeMark for 00:01:21.640 school messenger and poof al=
l the emails 00:01:24.640 suddenly start going back to the inbox 00:01:26.9=
60 not showing up in junk email so at the 00:01:29.439 end of the day today=
 that's it's what 00:01:31.439 I'm what I'm finding is DeMar solves a 00:01=
:33.840 ton of stuff and we're going to talk 00:01:34.960 about what that i=
s how that works but it 00:01:37.960 doesn't solve everything um and that's=
00:01:40.079 that's one of the misnomers is we end up 00:01:43.040 Googlin=
g a little bit uh stumble on a 00:01:45.520 site called mail genius.com and=
 we're 00:01:48.759 we're looking at this and it I was like 00:01:51.240 th=
is is genius no no pun intended but 00:01:54.600 but I'm I'm starting to so=
so we mail 00:01:57.000 genius let you essentially send test 00:01:58.719 =
emails and it kind of scores them and 00:02:00.840 tells you what's good wh=
at's bad and so 00:02:03.320 on I was like this is awesome because we 00:02=
:05.719 can stick to Demar and then we can just 00:02:08.119 start pointing=
uh everybody else to this 00:02:10.318 male genius when when they get you =
know 00:02:12.040 oh this went to and and so I was like 00:02:14.519 who wh=
o created this site who who and so 00:02:17.160 so long story short that's =
where the 00:02:19.280 road LED and I Met Troy let's start off 00:02:22.760=
with Demar Troy do you want to do you 00:02:24.640 want to take that one w=
hat what is DeMar 00:02:26.920 and why do we why do we need it sure so 00:0=
2:30.000 Mark domain based messaging 00:02:31.760 authentication reporting =
and conformance 00:02:34.160 not that you need to know all that stuff 00:02=
:35.800 because it sounds like alphabet soup to 00:02:37.400 a lot of peopl=
e but essentially it's a 00:02:39.560 security feature so um it is possible=
00:02:42.599 believe it or not still in 2024 to spoof 00:02:46.360 other p=
eople via email what that means 00:02:48.239 is pretend that you're somebod=
y else and 00:02:50.959 there's a lot of Bad actors that do that 00:02:53.0=
00 so um Demar is basically a security 00:02:56.080 feature you can Impleme=
nt with your 00:02:57.959 domain so nobody else can protect tend 00:03:00.0=
80 to be you um if you've ever gotten an 00:03:02.360 email where they it l=
ooked like they 00:03:04.239 were trying to pose as somebody else or 00:03:=
06.640 like a company asking for your passwords 00:03:09.239 um people try =
to do that anyway but it 00:03:11.080 looks really really realistic if you =
00:03:13.720 don't have DeMark set up and they can 00:03:16.200 also get a =
hold of your email they can 00:03:17.599 start sending emails from your dom=
ain 00:03:19.680 it's like really really bad now 00:03:21.280 obviously thi=
s is something that is I'm 00:03:23.640 not try to scare you it's not about=
to 00:03:25.480 happen to everybody but the way Google 00:03:28.159 looks =
at it is if you don't have the set 00:03:30.000 up we can't trust you as mu=
ch because 00:03:32.120 we're not 100% sure it's you and even if 00:03:35.4=
39 it probably is you there's a decent 00:03:38.080 chance that you might g=
et spoofed and 00:03:40.000 then other Gmail users are going to have 00:03:=
42.360 a difficult time and it's going to 00:03:43.840 create a bad experen=
ce for and not just 00:03:46.239 Gmail is just that this year they put 00:0=
3:47.920 out an update saying that in well they 00:03:50.200 put it out las=
t year saying that 00:03:51.560 February of this year anybody who sends 00:=
03:53.879 both emails so like 5,000 or more emails 00:03:56.400 at a time y=
ou really should have dkim 00:03:59.159 set up which is like a a sub sector=
of 00:04:01.280 Demar so I'll talk a little bit um about 00:04:05.200 how =
those things work together but does 00:04:07.599 that makes sense I'm tryin=
g to make it 00:04:10.000 make sense to somebody who has never 00:04:11.319=
heard of it totally and yeah I think 00:04:13.480 that's that's good and a=
nd yeah spelling 00:04:15.079 out the acronym I'm like two points for 00:04=
:17.199 you dude like I don't there's uh it's 00:04:21.519 and I think one =
of one of the things 00:04:22.800 that um um blew me away actually two 00:0=
4:27.919 things um one 00:04:30.360 was we hit February so Google Apple 00:=
04:33.080 everybody was like okay we're rolling 00:04:34.560 this out in Fe=
bruary and I I was kind of 00:04:37.000 looking at February I'm like okay t=
his 00:04:38.440 is going to be like D-Day because we by 00:04:40.039 then =
we built this little service and 00:04:41.440 I'm like I'm it's like y 2K i=
f you've 00:04:43.360 been around long enough right I'm like 00:04:44.880 o=
kay it's going to happen and like all 00:04:46.320 these emails are going t=
o go spam and it 00:04:48.400 didn't um we kind of went through 00:04:50.00=
0 February and people are like yeah we're 00:04:51.600 fine but what's happ=
ening is it's it's 00:04:53.919 almost like a a tourniquet to where 00:04:5=
5.639 Google and everybody else is kind of 00:04:57.479 slowly but surely o=
ver time cranking up 00:05:00.560 the the I would say requirements the the =
00:05:03.600 severity of the filtering so now here we 00:05:06.080 are we'r=
e recording this in June um and 00:05:09.440 I'm starting to see like okay =
that like 00:05:11.199 it's it's now really having a a 00:05:13.479 signifi=
cant impact but there's still 00:05:14.919 stuff that if if you don't have =
DeMark 00:05:16.520 it goes through so you end up um uh end 00:05:20.039 up=
 uh uh yeah like getting a false a 00:05:23.400 false sense and I I had a t=
hought just 00:05:25.240 as you were talking I don't even know if 00:05:26.=
400 this is going to work I'm going to try 00:05:27.400 it um and and see i=
s this is this right 00:05:30.919 side up for you very cool looks right 00:=
05:34.000 all right all right I didn't test it so 00:05:36.080 if it's all =
upside down we can edit it 00:05:37.440 later so so in a nutshell we've got=
your 00:05:40.160 email server uh that is sending email 00:05:43.080 and I=
just want to kind of like put a 00:05:45.080 picture to what what Troy was=
saying 00:05:46.440 because it took me and a lot of other 00:05:48.280 fol=
ks a while to get the direction so 00:05:50.080 let's just say uh you're uh=
 let's just 00:05:52.720 put mg.com don't go there I don't know 00:05:54.72=
0 what it is I was just thinking mail 00:05:55.800 genius and and I I just =
went mg.com so 00:05:58.080 so mg.com so we've got you know Bob 00:06:01.52=
0 mg.com uh is an email address from there 00:06:04.199 so so the thing tha=
t Demar does is 00:06:07.199 essentially create a list I'm just 00:06:09.52=
0 glancing to make sure everybody can see 00:06:11.440 this create a list o=
f these are the 00:06:13.319 people that are authorized uh to send 00:06:16=
.360 email on behalf of 00:06:18.360 mg.com uh so this is the DeMark 00:06:=
21.199 list and and it's it I'm I'm I'm getting 00:06:24.360 ahead of mysel=
f so so Demar is really 00:06:27.039 about who is able to send as you meani=
ng 00:06:31.560 who can send as mg.com that's that's 00:06:34.240 where the=
DeMark list and it's not it's 00:06:35.840 not exactly a DeMark list uh it=
's an SPF 00:06:39.039 list and everything else but this is 00:06:41.199 wh=
at it impacts so all these other email 00:06:43.360 servers so this is Troy=
this is what I 00:06:44.960 heard you saying is all these which 00:06:47.4=
79 could be 00:06:48.440 fishing uh sending out as mg.com uh or 00:06:52.56=
0 they could be services that we're signed 00:06:54.000 up for that are tha=
t are sending email 00:06:55.960 on our behalf that's what Demar does is 00=
:06:58.520 let us say that one that one are good 00:07:01.440 whereas you k=
now this guy he didn't make 00:07:03.520 the list and so so all the email c=
oming 00:07:06.560 from him will immediately be discarded 00:07:08.599 from=
there yeah is that am I am I saying 00:07:10.560 that the right way yeah y=
eah so to take 00:07:13.720 it another level um the there's two 00:07:16.96=
0 things that you have to do before you 00:07:18.479 implement your Demar p=
olicy because 00:07:20.720 Demar is literally just a policy that 00:07:22.4=
79 tells you if somebody tries to send mail 00:07:24.400 as you does it get=
approved or does it 00:07:27.000 get denied right so there's three levels =
00:07:29.120 to that there's um you can say none 00:07:32.440 which is basi=
cally nothing like there's 00:07:34.520 no security there's quarantine whic=
h is 00:07:37.000 if somebody tries to send email is you 00:07:39.199 and t=
hey're not allowed goes to spam and 00:07:41.599 then there's reject which =
will just 00:07:42.919 block the email but in order um like 00:07:46.479 be=
fore you set up that policy you have 00:07:49.280 to do two other things an=
d set those um 00:07:51.919 those records up so one is deip so 00:07:54.080=
domain Keys identify mail um so with 00:07:57.240 that is let's say for ex=
ample you're 00:07:59.000 send in from Outlook active campaign and 00:08:03=
.240 Zoho help desk for your customer support 00:08:06.960 um so each one o=
f those different 00:08:09.000 platforms will give you a key 00:08:11.080 e=
ssentially think of it as like you're 00:08:13.080 you're giving them a key=
to the house 00:08:14.759 right so you go to their platform you 00:08:17.4=
79 grab the key and you put it into the DNS 00:08:20.440 of your domain um =
so that way uh you 00:08:24.120 know Google Outlook Yahoo whoever is 00:08:=
26.240 receiving the email they're checking 00:08:27.919 your DNS and like =
hey there's a key in 00:08:29.919 there this email's coming from active 00:=
08:31.919 campaign this email is good to go um so 00:08:34.399 you have to =
get one key from each 00:08:36.159 platform you send from don't forget any =
00:08:38.120 otherwise that's where you could really 00:08:39.719 mess up u=
m and things could get blocked 00:08:42.559 by accident then there's SPF wh=
ich is 00:08:44.959 sender policy framework what that is is 00:08:47.680 it=
's one record and so uh with DM you're 00:08:51.399 getting one record from=
all the 00:08:53.040 different platforms you send from um so 00:08:55.839 =
you could have one for each you can have 00:08:57.720 a ton of different DK=
records 00:08:59.959 but with SPF you only want one and it's 00:09:02.680 =
kind of a way to kind of like double 00:09:05.640 confirm what you've tried=
to implement 00:09:08.640 with DK so with SPF you have one record 00:09:12=
.519 and you include all the different um 00:09:15.160 platforms you send f=
rom so normally a 00:09:17.920 SPF record would be like V equals spf1 00:09=
:20.720 and it'll say include active campaign 00:09:23.040 include Outlook =
includes Zoho help desk 00:09:26.440 um you know if we give a a real exampl=
e 00:09:30.000 it looks a little bit different but in 00:09:32.079 Simplici=
ty that's how it looks and then 00:09:34.880 when you have those two things=
set up 00:09:36.399 your Demar policy is just telling you 00:09:38.680 wha=
t to do if a certain email fails 00:09:42.399 those tests yeah awesome and =
and that's 00:09:45.440 that's the that's the I won't flip my 00:09:47.839 =
camera back and forth I'll just put it 00:09:49.279 right there that's the =
list and that's 00:09:51.120 one of the things that we find is is um 00:09:=
54.279 we actually ran into a a pretty large 00:09:57.000 customer uh who w=
as like I'm going to 00:09:59.440 I'm just don't worry I'm going to do 00:1=
0:01.000 Demar myself and we're like cool go for 00:10:02.720 it have at it=
and uh and they called us 00:10:05.399 a little while later exactly with w=
hat 00:10:06.880 you're saying Troy because SPF it's it's 00:10:09.720 not =
it's I I draw it like a little uh a 00:10:12.640 little uh piece of paper r=
ight there but 00:10:14.480 it's not that easy it's like one long 00:10:16.=
600 line it looks kind of like code but if 00:10:19.640 you don't get it ri=
ght the challenge is 00:10:22.200 it invalidates the whole thing like you 0=
0:10:24.320 put a comma in the wrong place you do 00:10:26.040 and and so a=
s soon as you do that that's 00:10:28.320 like saying okay this this is the=
people 00:10:30.040 that are authorized to send email on my 00:10:31.560 b=
ehalf and because I put a comma in the 00:10:33.360 wrong place all of that=
is invalid and 00:10:35.800 all of the email starts going to junk 00:10:37=
.320 mail and people are freaking out and all 00:10:38.880 that kind of stu=
ff so so so the SPF list 00:10:43.200 is a big deal the deim and I I like w=
hat 00:10:46.560 you're saying the DM's a little easier 00:10:48.079 becaus=
e it's kind of like each each 00:10:50.760 place is like here's our key you=
throw 00:10:52.440 that in your DNS here's our key and in 00:10:54.920 rea=
lity it's a cryptography key uh that 00:10:57.200 that it uses to add a lit=
tle signature 00:10:58.839 to every single email that they send as 00:11:01=
.000 you um so so the reality of what's 00:11:04.800 happened I think Troy =
is as of February 00:11:08.760 things are just getting way more 00:11:11.83=
9 secure yeah so Google announced that 00:11:15.480 come February if you're=
sending more 00:11:17.160 than 5,000 bulk emails at once you need 00:11:20=
.600 to have a DMT set up because yes you can 00:11:23.880 make it to the i=
nbox without one but now 00:11:26.480 if you're trying to send more than 5,=
000 00:11:28.200 you're most likely going to spam now 00:11:30.519 this did=
n't just get completely 00:11:32.160 implemented on February 1st is so 00:1=
1:34.160 they're going to drip it out over the 00:11:35.320 course of this =
year they even said that 00:11:37.200 by June they expected it to be 100% 0=
0:11:39.920 complete but nobody really knows what 00:11:41.399 the status i=
s currently because Google 00:11:43.440 is very hush about totally um so th=
at's 00:11:47.959 kind of the status yeah it's like you 00:11:49.639 just g=
et one De Record from each place 00:11:52.079 that you send from and it's j=
ust a 00:11:53.360 simple text record txt um that you copy 00:11:56.600 and=
paste and put into your DNS then the 00:11:59.360 SPF is kind of like the =
keychain because 00:12:01.560 you put all the different keys on one 00:12:0=
4.200 record and then debark is just like your 00:12:06.600 security policy=
or like your alarm 00:12:08.399 system for example so that's how I like 00=
:12:10.519 to break it down for people but yeah um 00:12:13.560 these are t=
hings that are not going to 00:12:14.959 guarantee that you make it into th=
e 00:12:17.000 inbox but there are things that you 00:12:18.360 should set =
up right away as a 00:12:20.440 prerequisite before you even start 00:12:22=
.160 sending email yeah that that that 00:12:24.519 actually you make me yo=
u made me think 00:12:26.519 of something that there is no guarant 00:12:29=
.680 that you're going into the Inbox and 00:12:31.199 that's what I'm comi=
ng back to like when 00:12:33.320 you roll out Demar people will start 00:1=
2:35.199 thinking you're a male magician like huh 00:12:37.720 it all just =
starts working but all 00:12:40.120 you've done is increased the reputation=
00:12:42.199 of the email to at least enough like if 00:12:45.519 like one=
of the things Troy was saying 00:12:46.880 is you have your options when i=
t comes 00:12:48.519 to Demar of none quarantine and reject 00:12:52.279 um=
and what I'm seeing a lot of people 00:12:54.000 do is they're like oh yea=
h to implement 00:12:55.920 Demar just turn on and put none in there 00:12:=
58.880 and that's working right now but again 00:13:02.440 as that tourniqu=
et turns Tighter and 00:13:04.199 Tighter and Tighter Google Yahoo 00:13:06=
.720 everything else is going to try and 00:13:08.000 point you to that 00:=
13:10.440 so the reputation that your email has 00:13:14.959 yeah it depend=
s on Demar but there's a 00:13:17.639 whole bunch of other things and I Tro=
y I 00:13:19.399 think that's that's where you've got 00:13:21.240 that's y=
our specialty is how do how do 00:13:24.000 you how do you make sure that s=
o let me 00:13:27.040 ask you that because that's the killer 00:13:28.120 q=
uestion everybody's like you know now 00:13:29.839 you've got not just the =
junk mailbox but 00:13:33.519 you also have the Inbox and the other or 00:1=
3:36.160 the promo or the whatever tab you know 00:13:38.360 all the email =
providers are trying to 00:13:41.079 make email great again right and so so=
00:13:44.000 how do how do you get your emails in the 00:13:48.199 inbox y=
eah so to be clear before I 00:13:50.759 acquired mail genius.com um my fou=
nd or 00:13:53.720 my partner Jesse was the founding member 00:13:55.440 of=
that so uh prior to that um I've run 00:13:58.720 an email Emil Agency for=
the last five 00:14:00.880 years called email paramedic and we're 00:14:03=
.079 rebranding right now if the if the 00:14:05.320 domain goes through em=
ail marketing.com 00:14:07.360 I really hope it does but point is I've 00:1=
4:09.839 been doing all types of email markeing 00:14:11.839 for the last f=
ive years right so I've 00:14:13.560 gotten really good at selling um when =
it 00:14:15.600 comes to working with companies who have 00:14:17.079 their=
own email list and now we're 00:14:18.600 getting really good at doing col=
d emails 00:14:20.279 so reaching out to people who don't know 00:14:22.199=
us and trying to book calls right so um 00:14:25.040 the biggest thing tha=
t affects 00:14:26.720 deliverability when you're trying to do 00:14:28.519=
either one of those two things is your 00:14:30.759 reputation like you sa=
id there's two 00:14:32.440 reputations there's the domain 00:14:33.959 rep=
utation and there's the IP reputation 00:14:36.639 now if you're just start=
ing out um we'll 00:14:38.600 talk about the IP reputation first 00:14:40.6=
80 because if you're brand new you're going 00:14:42.240 to be on a shared =
IP what that means is 00:14:44.639 for example if you're on active campaign=
00:14:47.079 uh they have IP pools so IP is like a 00:14:49.720 neighborho=
od um where your account is 00:14:52.800 inside of their you know space of =
the 00:14:56.040 internet and they group all the 00:14:58.279 different sen=
ders together so if you're 00:15:00.120 new they kind of put you in like a =
low 00:15:01.880 to medium but if you've been sending for 00:15:03.800 a lo=
ng time and you have demarked 00:15:05.880 implemented correctly and you ge=
t really 00:15:07.759 high open rates you a lot of clicks a 00:15:09.920 lo=
t of replies nobody really reports you 00:15:12.040 to spam not many people=
you know delete 00:15:15.279 the email before they read it like all 00:15:=
17.360 those things are going to bump up your 00:15:19.440 reputation and g=
et you to a higher IP 00:15:22.759 reputation and at the same time all 00:1=
5:25.160 those things will improve your domain 00:15:26.519 reputation beca=
use your domain 00:15:28.040 reputation strict based on what you have 00:15=
:30.440 done with your own domain so they both 00:15:32.759 affect each oth=
er but with that being 00:15:34.759 said it also works on the contrary righ=
t 00:15:36.959 so if you do anything that seems a 00:15:39.319 little bit s=
uspicious to Google like you 00:15:41.319 get a lot of spam complaints not =
many 00:15:43.079 people open your emails a lot of people 00:15:45.399 dele=
te them all those different things 00:15:47.839 it reduces the reputation o=
f your domain 00:15:50.680 as well as um a lot of times you'll get 00:15:53=
.240 demoted to a lower IP reputation and 00:15:56.440 this is especially i=
mportant if you have 00:15:58.319 your own IP 00:15:59.519 uh because a lot=
of people have private 00:16:00.959 IPS uh and anytime that you set up Dem=
ar 00:16:05.480 you also want to make sure that you warm 00:16:07.160 up sl=
owly because if you don't do that 00:16:09.680 if you just you know go from=
like hey 00:16:11.199 I've never sent an email from this 00:16:12.560 doma=
in or um you just Implement Demar uh 00:16:17.000 and you just send to thou=
sands of people 00:16:18.800 on the first day that's another red flag 00:16=
:21.319 that they look for so anytime you have a 00:16:22.800 new domain or=
you implement Demar you 00:16:24.440 definitely want to warm up and just 0=
0:16:26.199 start with you know a few people on the 00:16:28.000 first day =
and then just keep doubling it 00:16:29.759 every day until you're at your =
desired 00:16:31.800 volume got it got it yeah and that so so 00:16:36.079 =
what you see in a lot 00:16:37.920 of I'll call them Fishers a lot of 00:16=
:40.319 fishers will just go register a new 00:16:41.880 domain that nobody=
knows about and then 00:16:43.839 start blasting the world from this new 0=
0:16:45.440 domain trying to get people to click on 00:16:46.839 it and all=
the I mean it's a cat and 00:16:48.519 mouse game all the email providers =
are 00:16:50.000 catching up to that so it it it makes 00:16:53.160 sense f=
or a legitimate business to 00:16:54.920 slowly start stepping into that no=
w I'll 00:16:57.880 tell you from our side in rolling out 00:16:59.759 Dema=
r for companies in smaller 00:17:02.880 organization it's actually pretty e=
asy a 00:17:05.160 lot a lot of times we're like you don't 00:17:06.919 eve=
n need us to to do it for you just 00:17:09.439 you know do these things an=
d all that 00:17:11.199 what I found and I've actually talked to 00:17:13.7=
60 a number of it folks um so so here's the 00:17:16.919 thing this is this=
it's probably 00:17:20.199 backwards but uh it says reject if you 00:17:22=
.240 read backwards um that's the the 00:17:24.559 Pinnacle of Demar is whe=
re you can say 00:17:26.919 Demar equals reject and what that does 00:17:30=
.000 is tell all the email servers of the 00:17:32.400 world if it's not on=
my DeMark list 00:17:35.559 immediately throw it away don't even 00:17:36.=
960 look at it like if if it's saying it's 00:17:38.559 coming from my doma=
in reject it your 00:17:41.320 email reputation goes up even more when 00:1=
7:43.480 you do that and it makes a nutshell an 00:17:46.400 impenetrable f=
ishing Fortress to where 00:17:48.679 no one can send from your domain or 0=
0:17:51.039 pretend to send from your domain uh if 00:17:53.559 they're not=
authorized and hang on hang 00:17:55.039 on sidebar um a lot of people are=
like 00:17:57.960 Demar is the the end of fishing and that 00:18:01.520 it=
's not I guess in one sense it's true 00:18:05.360 in another sense it's no=
t there's still 00:18:07.960 nothing that stops somebody from having 00:18:=
09.799 a Gmail address like Bob 5969 2 at uh 00:18:14.200 you know gmail.co=
m and putting the first 00:18:16.320 and last name is Elon Musk and like 00=
:18:18.200 sending emails in as this you know and 00:18:20.600 people like =
oh look it's Elon like like 00:18:22.799 that's gonna that's going to alway=
s 00:18:24.120 happen and the only way to stop that 00:18:25.840 because it=
's legitimate email email it's 00:18:28.120 is education right but you cann=
ot send 00:18:31.320 from in this case mg or mail genius or 00:18:33.640 wh=
atever domain you're talking about 00:18:35.280 once you've deployed dmart =
correctly so 00:18:37.600 back on on off the sidebar um the the 00:18:41.60=
0 the thing that I've seen and I've talked 00:18:43.440 to a couple it guys=
is they're like this 00:18:46.559 is not something I'm willing to do and 0=
0:18:49.080 and I've heard it twice from two 00:18:50.400 different guys th=
ey said nobody gets 00:18:53.320 fired for an email going to junk but I 00:=
18:57.039 get fired if I flip that thing to and we 00:18:59.440 missed some=
body over there that the was 00:19:01.559 the CEO's pet project and our lat=
est 00:19:04.039 marketing campaign or whatever goes to 00:19:06.200 spam e=
verywhere like like I'm not doing 00:19:08.640 it and and so that's where w=
e've been 00:19:10.799 brought in many times because rolling 00:19:12.400 o=
ut Demar what I what I 00:19:15.400 find and I don't know if you've run int=
o 00:19:17.360 this too Troy but it's a lot more 00:19:19.919 communication=
and project management 00:19:22.080 than it is technology like the tech of=
00:19:25.039 it is actually not too bad but it's 00:19:27.679 figuring out=
where is all of our email 00:19:30.320 coming from and and that's that's o=
ne of 00:19:32.000 the things is like how do you it's one 00:19:35.440 of t=
he questions we were thinking about 00:19:36.480 TR like how do you track y=
our results 00:19:38.320 when you roll out Demar or how do you 00:19:41.000=
how do you find all these sources any 00:19:43.520 any idea yeah so you're=
right the very 00:19:45.919 first step especially with a smaller 00:19:47.=
520 organization would just be to ask around 00:19:49.559 be like hey what =
are the different 00:19:50.640 platforms we use and once you find those 00:=
19:52.520 platforms um if you've done this before 00:19:55.280 or if you ha=
ve you know somebody like me 00:19:56.919 or Jeremy guiding you it's pretty=
 simple 00:19:59.360 to set up the tech but if it's a a 00:20:01.720 pretty=
large organization then sometimes 00:20:04.159 you would need tools to hel=
p you figure 00:20:06.039 out where these things are coming from 00:20:07.9=
19 so actually you can change your Demar 00:20:10.200 record um so it actua=
lly sends a report 00:20:12.840 now the report is not going to be 00:20:14.=
320 something you can read it's something 00:20:15.760 that computers can r=
ead so um what you 00:20:17.960 can do is uh basically set that report 00:2=
0:21.559 to go to a specific email address and 00:20:23.760 there's compani=
es out there like we 00:20:25.080 don't do this yet like we'll give you a 0=
0:20:27.080 full breakdown of your DeMark of set up 00:20:28.919 correctly =
at mail.com but there's 00:20:31.360 companies like easy DeMark you can jus=
t 00:20:33.200 set it to their email address if you 00:20:35.159 have their=
monthly subscription and then 00:20:37.240 they'll kind of like translate =
it to 00:20:38.960 English for you um so you can see like 00:20:41.559 oh i=
t looks like somebody tried to send 00:20:44.440 uh an email with this doma=
in and it got 00:20:46.840 blocked so you like oh we forgot about 00:20:48.=
720 that one or you could be like oh like 00:20:51.159 somebody was trying =
to spoof us or 00:20:52.960 somebody was trying to fish so those are 00:20:=
55.520 the different ways that um you could use 00:20:57.480 it yeah and ac=
tually that's one of the 00:20:59.679 things I want to make sure everybody =
00:21:01.400 gathers from this um Demar is like when 00:21:04.760 you when =
you really get what it is it's 00:21:07.480 pretty awesome like you create =
a DNS 00:21:10.440 record that literally impacts the entire 00:21:13.159 Gl=
obe like your one little DeMark 00:21:15.000 message tells every email serv=
er of the 00:21:17.520 world if you get an email from me report 00:21:20.55=
9 it back and that's where you can like 00:21:22.679 you you gave an exampl=
e of easy DeMark 00:21:24.400 there's probably a hundred of those kind 00:2=
1:26.640 of things out there and all the email 00:21:28.240 servers when an=
d whenever they get an 00:21:29.880 email from from you or your domain 00:2=
1:32.440 they'll send a little report back to 00:21:34.279 easy Demar or wh=
atever vendor you're 00:21:36.120 using which will graph it all out and 00:=
21:38.279 say okay like a thousand emails from 00:21:40.200 your domain cam=
e from that server and 00:21:41.720 and 10 from this one there's some weird=
00:21:43.559 ones coming from that one 100,000 came 00:21:45.919 from this=
and you can see the times of 00:21:47.320 months and all that and that's o=
ne of 00:21:48.520 the things when you're rolling out Demar 00:21:50.559 it=
's not like a okay we're going to do 00:21:52.320 this and then tomorrow yo=
u're done you 00:21:54.799 kind of go on a discovery Mission if you 00:21:5=
7.840 will you flip on this little dis dis I 00:22:00.279 call it Discovery=
discovery mode for 00:22:02.159 Demar where you you're just watching cuz 0=
0:22:04.600 you're I mean I mean we're talking about 00:22:06.720 like smal=
l domains like mail genius and 00:22:08.640 things like that but there's do=
mains out 00:22:10.159 I mean think of think of somebody like 00:22:11.640 =
Cisco or Microsoft or I don't know big 00:22:15.320 company X like like the=
y probably have 00:22:18.240 hundreds of vendors that are sending on 00:22:=
20.360 their behalf and so it's it's almost 00:22:22.080 like a full resear=
ch project to figure 00:22:23.960 out where are all these guys so that we 0=
0:22:26.279 can make them all Demar compliant so 00:22:28.120 that's that's=
part of the game yeah 00:22:30.640 another free tool would be uh postmaste=
r 00:22:33.000 dogo.com so that's Google postmaster um 00:22:36.720 as long=
as you have Demar set up you can 00:22:39.039 get some free reports uh and=
that'll 00:22:41.400 show you your domain reputation IP 00:22:43.960 reput=
ation spam rate 00:22:46.760 authentication uh any delivery errors 00:22:49=
.360 things like that and it'll tell you um 00:22:52.279 it if you're gener=
ally passing like what 00:22:54.279 percentage of the time for you know SPF=
 00:22:56.400 D and dmark but it won't necessarily 00:22:59.240 tell you wh=
ere those are coming from so 00:23:01.559 that's where you'd have to pay fo=
r a 00:23:02.919 subscription to something like eect 00:23:04.799 Market ye=
ah got it have you had I'm 00:23:07.120 curious Troy have you had any Demar=
roll 00:23:09.440 outs gone bad yet gone bad no it's like 00:23:13.919 we =
really try to emphasize to people 00:23:16.640 that hey you have to like te=
ll us 00:23:19.400 everything otherwise there's going to be 00:23:21.360 is=
sues that come up so um no we haven't 00:23:23.840 had any like Mass campai=
gns go out with 00:23:26.440 delivery erors you know to thousands of 00:23:=
28.240 people because we check all that stuff 00:23:30.240 with a test emai=
l you'd be surprised how 00:23:32.400 many different mistakes you can catch=
00:23:34.080 with a test email um so like always do 00:23:37.200 that if y=
ou're sending a really 00:23:38.440 important email or to a lot of people 0=
0:23:40.600 because the other thing that you may not 00:23:41.799 to think =
about is if you do send not 00:23:44.480 only is that an opportunity cost t=
hat 00:23:46.480 you just missed out on but you can also 00:23:48.640 damag=
e your domain if you send out an 00:23:50.520 email and something goes wron=
g it goes 00:23:52.679 to the wrong people it gets marked to 00:23:54.279 s=
pam it gets completely blocked there's 00:23:56.159 a lot of things that ca=
n happen there 00:23:58.039 yeah and and I'm I'm giving Troy's I me 00:24:0=
1.640 that's why I'm here is is I'm giving 00:24:03.400 Troy's company a co=
mpletely Shameless 00:24:05.039 plug because he's 100% right like when I 00=
:24:07.320 first saw mail genius I sent a test 00:24:09.679 email to it and=
I was like oh that's 00:24:10.880 pretty cool and like it didn't hit me 00=
:24:13.360 like what what little piece of gold I 00:24:15.279 had discovere=
d right there um and and 00:24:17.600 until it was and actually I was like =
oh 00:24:19.760 cool it's like an email tester because 00:24:21.600 there's=
lots of things similar to that 00:24:24.039 out there um but it wasn't unt=
il we had 00:24:27.320 customers so so I asked you did you have 00:24:29.27=
9 demart go B I did um so we had a 00:24:31.520 customer who we did a disco=
very we 00:24:33.159 thought we found all of them and they 00:24:34.720 wer=
e like so anxious to get it to Demar 00:24:37.000 equals reject they're lik=
e just do it 00:24:38.679 dude just I'm like we've only done it 00:24:40.64=
0 for 30 we've only monitored for I'm like 00:24:42.520 are you sure and he=
's like yeah just do 00:24:44.279 it and so so we flip it and a couple 00:2=
4:46.760 days go by we're like sweet awesome and 00:24:49.120 all of a sudd=
en we get this frantic call 00:24:50.799 like stop it undo it like like so =
that's 00:24:53.960 where it can go wrong is because if you 00:24:56.000 fo=
rget somebody and they send a blast of 00:24:58.480 of you know 3,000 email=
s out not only do 00:25:01.919 all of those essentially get eliminated 00:2=
5:04.600 I mean they they get terminated by by 00:25:06.559 all the email s=
ervers but it immediately 00:25:08.960 impacts the reputation of that email=
00:25:10.919 server and whoever is managing that is 00:25:12.880 like what=
what the heck just happened 00:25:14.600 and so they're going to Conta so =
it it's 00:25:16.480 one of those like H like just just take 00:25:18.679 y=
our time on that but back to maale 00:25:20.320 genius that's where I was l=
ike man now I 00:25:22.919 like initially I was like why would you 00:25:24=
.520 ever buy this cuz I think it gives you 00:25:25.960 like I don't know =
510 like free test or 00:25:28.640 something like that I'm like why I I I 0=
0:25:30.799 didn't get it and that that's where once 00:25:33.440 I got it =
I was like okay this is sweet 00:25:35.679 where you can actually go to a c=
ustomer 00:25:37.440 and just exactly what Troy was saying 00:25:39.320 lik=
e before you blast this email out to 00:25:41.200 3,000 people just test it=
first just 00:25:43.880 make sure that you're not like you don't 00:25:45.=
919 have like too many hyperlinks or too 00:25:47.840 many like a photo in =
there that's like 00:25:50.000 like that's what it's useful for and I'm 00:=
25:51.679 like ah now that makes total sense and 00:25:54.399 like I'm like=
that should be like in the 00:25:55.840 back pocket of just about any mark=
eting 00:25:57.640 company so anyway that's that's my quas 00:26:00.600 Sha=
meless plug for your own company 00:26:03.320 thank you I appreciate that y=
eah it's 00:26:05.039 nice the reason I acquired mail genius 00:26:07.039 i=
s because I used to use it all the time 00:26:08.640 and I was like I know =
there's a lot of 00:26:10.440 people that this would help and I know 00:26:=
11.919 there's a lot of people in general that 00:26:13.159 use it because =
there's over a million 00:26:14.720 emails tested every single year so yeah=
00:26:17.200 we check for SPF dkim DeMark Blacklist 00:26:21.640 uh for bo=
th the domain and IP um we 00:26:24.880 check for bad links we check for sp=
ammy 00:26:27.240 language we check for images that are 00:26:28.960 too bi=
g and like countless other things 00:26:31.559 that could be wrong with an =
email and I 00:26:33.559 tell people all the time I was like hey 00:26:35.3=
99 make sure that you're testing often not 00:26:37.399 just once because t=
hose things change 00:26:39.080 every time and just because one email 00:26=
:40.720 inboxes doesn't mean the next one well 00:26:42.640 so it's like re=
ally really important and 00:26:44.840 we're trying to build a suite of too=
ls 00:26:46.640 so people know that they could test 00:26:48.279 their emai=
ls and they're going to have 00:26:49.559 more confidence than ever that th=
ey're 00:26:51.360 going to hit the Inbox and we don't have 00:26:52.799 to=
you know worry tomorrow or next week 00:26:54.880 or next month next year =
awesome and and 00:26:57.640 that's that's where where I think we'll 00:26:=
59.679 we'll uh wind down and that's that's 00:27:01.559 what we do uh we a=
re we are the ones 00:27:03.679 that uh walk through rolling out email 00:2=
7:07.559 or roll rolling out DeMark and making 00:27:09.880 sure email is s=
olid across the whole 00:27:11.919 organization and and I would say it's 00=
:27:13.399 only for groups that are a little larger 00:27:15.640 like we we=
've had folks come and you 00:27:17.399 know oh we send email from there an=
d 00:27:18.960 there I'm like but just fig I don't want 00:27:21.440 say fi=
gure that out but but do that 00:27:22.720 yourself like we're happy to hel=
p but 00:27:24.679 that's something that's no problem what 00:27:26.760 wha=
t we've done is when somebody signs 00:27:29.080 up for our dmic service we=
 assign a 00:27:30.760 full-on project manager uh because 99% 00:27:34.080 =
of the game is communication and okay 00:27:36.360 we've got this oh we fou=
nd another one 00:27:37.799 who's in charge of that who who did that 00:27:=
39.440 for your domain and just communication 00:27:41.519 communication wh=
ich it folks are 00:27:44.760 infamously uh uh tagged as as not being 00:27=
:47.559 the greatest at so we project manage the 00:27:49.679 whole thing a=
nd get it all rolled out to 00:27:51.960 where you eventually can get to De=
mar 00:27:53.640 equals reject for your organization 00:27:56.200 without a=
ccidentally getting fired so 00:27:58.640 that's what we do um so so that s=
aid I 00:28:01.760 think I mean Troy and I are talking 00:28:03.279 right n=
ow I think there's going to be a 00:28:04.480 landing page by time it's in =
and done 00:28:05.840 below this video feel free to click that 00:28:07.880=
link and it can take you in in either 00:28:10.080 direction either to Via=
or to mail 00:28:11.919 genius and uh best of luck rolling out 00:28:14.96=
0 to uh rolling out Demar to uh you in the 00:28:17.640 future Troy any las=
t words um I 00:28:21.000 appreciate it thank you yeah just click 00:28:22.=
919 that link you can join my email list and 00:28:25.279 Jeremy's email li=
st uh so you can try on 00:28:27.679 mail genius get three three tests and =
00:28:30.000 then whatever Jeremy is going to send 00:28:31.720 you um espe=
cially if you got a larger 00:28:33.559 organization he can actually implem=
ent 00:28:35.679 the policy for you awesome cool well 00:28:38.600 thanks T=
roy it's been awesome uh it's 00:28:40.720 it's fun because I was like wow =
I can I 00:28:42.640 can draw while somebody else is talking 00:28:44.200 n=
ormally I'm just doodling talking to 00:28:46.559 myself it was great go so=
maybe we could 00:28:48.960 do this again in the future all right 00:28:51=
.039 thank you Jeremy appreciate it all right 00:28:52.880 talk to you all =
soon

Jeremy Chara with me today is 00:00:02.560 Troy Ericson I want to give you=
a flyby 00:00:05.920 of of the world of 00:00:08.119 DeMark uh and we'll w=
e'll introduce uh 00:00:11.880 why we're talking together how we got 00:00:=
13.679 connected January of this year uh we 00:00:16.800 started getting so=
me emails so so uh 00:00:19.439 those of you that don't know I run a 00:00:=
20.640 manage service Rider called via we 00:00:23.199 support a lot of cus=
tomers primarily 00:00:25.279 education in in uh the world of schools 00:00=
:28.119 we started getting uh some emails from 00:00:30.119 our customer uh=
tickets coming in saying 00:00:32.320 hey uh we're using we're using this =
00:00:34.840 platform called School Messenger to 00:00:36.520 blast out ema=
iled like news newsletters 00:00:38.920 and things like that to our parents=
 and 00:00:41.120 they're all going to junk email and 00:00:43.320 what's g=
oing on how can you help and 00:00:45.960 normally that's one where we're l=
ike ah 00:00:47.960 you got to got to figure that on your 00:00:49.800 own =
but it was a a significant thing and 00:00:51.920 it was impacting some sig=
nificant people 00:00:53.960 at the organization so we're like ah 00:00:55.=
320 we'll jump in so so we discovered that 00:00:58.680 in February now now=
remember this is 00:01:01.039 January in February uh Google Apple and 00:0=
1:05.519 nameless other email providers were 00:01:07.479 going to start en=
forcing this thing 00:01:09.600 called DeMark which I looked at and I'd 00:=
01:12.119 heard about it but I never really uh put 00:01:14.479 two and two=
together and I thought okay 00:01:15.799 well that's in February but so we=
toyed 00:01:18.080 around with it we started uh playing 00:01:19.720 with =
it and so we rolled out DeMark for 00:01:21.640 school messenger and poof a=
ll the emails 00:01:24.640 suddenly start going back to the inbox 00:01:26.=
960 not showing up in junk email so at the 00:01:29.439 end of the day toda=
y that's it's what 00:01:31.439 I'm what I'm finding is DeMar solves a 00:0=
1:33.840 ton of stuff and we're going to talk 00:01:34.960 about what that =
is how that works but it 00:01:37.960 doesn't solve everything um and that'=
s 00:01:40.079 that's one of the misnomers is we end up 00:01:43.040 Googli=
ng a little bit uh stumble on a 00:01:45.520 site called mail genius.com an=
d we're 00:01:48.759 we're looking at this and it I was like 00:01:51.240 t=
his is genius no no pun intended but 00:01:54.600 but I'm I'm starting to s=
o so we mail 00:01:57.000 genius let you essentially send test 00:01:58.719=
emails and it kind of scores them and 00:02:00.840 tells you what's good w=
hat's bad and so 00:02:03.320 on I was like this is awesome because we 00:0=
2:05.719 can stick to Demar and then we can just 00:02:08.119 start pointin=
g uh everybody else to this 00:02:10.318 male genius when when they get you=
know 00:02:12.040 oh this went to and and so I was like 00:02:14.519 who w=
ho created this site who who and so 00:02:17.160 so long story short that's=
where the 00:02:19.280 road LED and I Met Troy let's start off 00:02:22.76=
0 with Demar Troy do you want to do you 00:02:24.640 want to take that one =
what what is DeMar 00:02:26.920 and why do we why do we need it sure so 00:=
02:30.000 Mark domain based messaging 00:02:31.760 authentication reporting=
and conformance 00:02:34.160 not that you need to know all that stuff 00:0=
2:35.800 because it sounds like alphabet soup to 00:02:37.400 a lot of peop=
le but essentially it's a 00:02:39.560 security feature so um it is possibl=
e 00:02:42.599 believe it or not still in 2024 to spoof 00:02:46.360 other =
people via email what that means 00:02:48.239 is pretend that you're somebo=
dy else and 00:02:50.959 there's a lot of Bad actors that do that 00:02:53.=
000 so um Demar is basically a security 00:02:56.080 feature you can Implem=
ent with your 00:02:57.959 domain so nobody else can protect tend 00:03:00.=
080 to be you um if you've ever gotten an 00:03:02.360 email where they it =
looked like they 00:03:04.239 were trying to pose as somebody else or 00:03=
:06.640 like a company asking for your passwords 00:03:09.239 um people try=
to do that anyway but it 00:03:11.080 looks really really realistic if you=
00:03:13.720 don't have DeMark set up and they can 00:03:16.200 also get a=
hold of your email they can 00:03:17.599 start sending emails from your do=
main 00:03:19.680 it's like really really bad now 00:03:21.280 obviously th=
is is something that is I'm 00:03:23.640 not try to scare you it's not abou=
t to 00:03:25.480 happen to everybody but the way Google 00:03:28.159 looks=
at it is if you don't have the set 00:03:30.000 up we can't trust you as m=
uch because 00:03:32.120 we're not 100% sure it's you and even if 00:03:35.=
439 it probably is you there's a decent 00:03:38.080 chance that you might =
get spoofed and 00:03:40.000 then other Gmail users are going to have 00:03=
:42.360 a difficult time and it's going to 00:03:43.840 create a bad expere=
nce for and not just 00:03:46.239 Gmail is just that this year they put 00:=
03:47.920 out an update saying that in well they 00:03:50.200 put it out la=
st year saying that 00:03:51.560 February of this year anybody who sends 00=
:03:53.879 both emails so like 5,000 or more emails 00:03:56.400 at a time =
you really should have dkim 00:03:59.159 set up which is like a a sub secto=
r of 00:04:01.280 Demar so I'll talk a little bit um about 00:04:05.200 how=
those things work together but does 00:04:07.599 that makes sense I'm tryi=
ng to make it 00:04:10.000 make sense to somebody who has never 00:04:11.31=
9 heard of it totally and yeah I think 00:04:13.480 that's that's good and =
and yeah spelling 00:04:15.079 out the acronym I'm like two points for 00:0=
4:17.199 you dude like I don't there's uh it's 00:04:21.519 and I think one=
of one of the things 00:04:22.800 that um um blew me away actually two 00:=
04:27.919 things um one 00:04:30.360 was we hit February so Google Apple 00=
:04:33.080 everybody was like okay we're rolling 00:04:34.560 this out in F=
ebruary and I I was kind of 00:04:37.000 looking at February I'm like okay =
this 00:04:38.440 is going to be like D-Day because we by 00:04:40.039 then=
 we built this little service and 00:04:41.440 I'm like I'm it's like y 2K =
if you've 00:04:43.360 been around long enough right I'm like 00:04:44.880 =
okay it's going to happen and like all 00:04:46.320 these emails are going =
to go spam and it 00:04:48.400 didn't um we kind of went through 00:04:50.0=
00 February and people are like yeah we're 00:04:51.600 fine but what's hap=
pening is it's it's 00:04:53.919 almost like a a tourniquet to where 00:04:=
55.639 Google and everybody else is kind of 00:04:57.479 slowly but surely =
over time cranking up 00:05:00.560 the the I would say requirements the the=
00:05:03.600 severity of the filtering so now here we 00:05:06.080 are we'=
re recording this in June um and 00:05:09.440 I'm starting to see like okay=
 that like 00:05:11.199 it's it's now really having a a 00:05:13.479 signif=
icant impact but there's still 00:05:14.919 stuff that if if you don't have=
DeMark 00:05:16.520 it goes through so you end up um uh end 00:05:20.039 u=
p uh uh yeah like getting a false a 00:05:23.400 false sense and I I had a =
thought just 00:05:25.240 as you were talking I don't even know if 00:05:26=
.400 this is going to work I'm going to try 00:05:27.400 it um and and see =
is this is this right 00:05:30.919 side up for you very cool looks right 00=
:05:34.000 all right all right I didn't test it so 00:05:36.080 if it's all=
upside down we can edit it 00:05:37.440 later so so in a nutshell we've go=
t your 00:05:40.160 email server uh that is sending email 00:05:43.080 and =
I just want to kind of like put a 00:05:45.080 picture to what what Troy wa=
s saying 00:05:46.440 because it took me and a lot of other 00:05:48.280 fo=
lks a while to get the direction so 00:05:50.080 let's just say uh you're u=
h let's just 00:05:52.720 put mg.com don't go there I don't know 00:05:54.7=
20 what it is I was just thinking mail 00:05:55.800 genius and and I I just=
went mg.com so 00:05:58.080 so mg.com so we've got you know Bob 00:06:01.5=
20 mg.com uh is an email address from there 00:06:04.199 so so the thing th=
at Demar does is 00:06:07.199 essentially create a list I'm just 00:06:09.5=
20 glancing to make sure everybody can see 00:06:11.440 this create a list =
of these are the 00:06:13.319 people that are authorized uh to send 00:06:1=
6.360 email on behalf of 00:06:18.360 mg.com uh so this is the DeMark 00:06=
:21.199 list and and it's it I'm I'm I'm getting 00:06:24.360 ahead of myse=
lf so so Demar is really 00:06:27.039 about who is able to send as you mean=
ing 00:06:31.560 who can send as mg.com that's that's 00:06:34.240 where th=
e DeMark list and it's not it's 00:06:35.840 not exactly a DeMark list uh i=
t's an SPF 00:06:39.039 list and everything else but this is 00:06:41.199 w=
hat it impacts so all these other email 00:06:43.360 servers so this is Tro=
y this is what I 00:06:44.960 heard you saying is all these which 00:06:47.=
479 could be 00:06:48.440 fishing uh sending out as mg.com uh or 00:06:52.5=
60 they could be services that we're signed 00:06:54.000 up for that are th=
at are sending email 00:06:55.960 on our behalf that's what Demar does is 0=
0:06:58.520 let us say that one that one are good 00:07:01.440 whereas you =
know this guy he didn't make 00:07:03.520 the list and so so all the email =
coming 00:07:06.560 from him will immediately be discarded 00:07:08.599 fro=
m there yeah is that am I am I saying 00:07:10.560 that the right way yeah =
yeah so to take 00:07:13.720 it another level um the there's two 00:07:16.9=
60 things that you have to do before you 00:07:18.479 implement your Demar =
policy because 00:07:20.720 Demar is literally just a policy that 00:07:22.=
479 tells you if somebody tries to send mail 00:07:24.400 as you does it ge=
t approved or does it 00:07:27.000 get denied right so there's three levels=
00:07:29.120 to that there's um you can say none 00:07:32.440 which is bas=
ically nothing like there's 00:07:34.520 no security there's quarantine whi=
ch is 00:07:37.000 if somebody tries to send email is you 00:07:39.199 and =
they're not allowed goes to spam and 00:07:41.599 then there's reject which=
will just 00:07:42.919 block the email but in order um like 00:07:46.479 b=
efore you set up that policy you have 00:07:49.280 to do two other things a=
nd set those um 00:07:51.919 those records up so one is deip so 00:07:54.08=
0 domain Keys identify mail um so with 00:07:57.240 that is let's say for e=
xample you're 00:07:59.000 send in from Outlook active campaign and 00:08:0=
3.240 Zoho help desk for your customer support 00:08:06.960 um so each one =
of those different 00:08:09.000 platforms will give you a key 00:08:11.080 =
essentially think of it as like you're 00:08:13.080 you're giving them a ke=
y to the house 00:08:14.759 right so you go to their platform you 00:08:17.=
479 grab the key and you put it into the DNS 00:08:20.440 of your domain um=
so that way uh you 00:08:24.120 know Google Outlook Yahoo whoever is 00:08=
:26.240 receiving the email they're checking 00:08:27.919 your DNS and like=
hey there's a key in 00:08:29.919 there this email's coming from active 00=
:08:31.919 campaign this email is good to go um so 00:08:34.399 you have to=
get one key from each 00:08:36.159 platform you send from don't forget any=
00:08:38.120 otherwise that's where you could really 00:08:39.719 mess up =
um and things could get blocked 00:08:42.559 by accident then there's SPF w=
hich is 00:08:44.959 sender policy framework what that is is 00:08:47.680 i=
t's one record and so uh with DM you're 00:08:51.399 getting one record fro=
m all the 00:08:53.040 different platforms you send from um so 00:08:55.839=
you could have one for each you can have 00:08:57.720 a ton of different D=
K records 00:08:59.959 but with SPF you only want one and it's 00:09:02.680=
kind of a way to kind of like double 00:09:05.640 confirm what you've trie=
d to implement 00:09:08.640 with DK so with SPF you have one record 00:09:1=
2.519 and you include all the different um 00:09:15.160 platforms you send =
from so normally a 00:09:17.920 SPF record would be like V equals spf1 00:0=
9:20.720 and it'll say include active campaign 00:09:23.040 include Outlook=
includes Zoho help desk 00:09:26.440 um you know if we give a a real examp=
le 00:09:30.000 it looks a little bit different but in 00:09:32.079 Simplic=
ity that's how it looks and then 00:09:34.880 when you have those two thing=
s set up 00:09:36.399 your Demar policy is just telling you 00:09:38.680 wh=
at to do if a certain email fails 00:09:42.399 those tests yeah awesome and=
 and that's 00:09:45.440 that's the that's the I won't flip my 00:09:47.839=
camera back and forth I'll just put it 00:09:49.279 right there that's the=
list and that's 00:09:51.120 one of the things that we find is is um 00:09=
:54.279 we actually ran into a a pretty large 00:09:57.000 customer uh who =
was like I'm going to 00:09:59.440 I'm just don't worry I'm going to do 00:=
10:01.000 Demar myself and we're like cool go for 00:10:02.720 it have at i=
t and uh and they called us 00:10:05.399 a little while later exactly with =
what 00:10:06.880 you're saying Troy because SPF it's it's 00:10:09.720 not=
 it's I I draw it like a little uh a 00:10:12.640 little uh piece of paper =
right there but 00:10:14.480 it's not that easy it's like one long 00:10:16=
.600 line it looks kind of like code but if 00:10:19.640 you don't get it r=
ight the challenge is 00:10:22.200 it invalidates the whole thing like you =
00:10:24.320 put a comma in the wrong place you do 00:10:26.040 and and so =
as soon as you do that that's 00:10:28.320 like saying okay this this is th=
e people 00:10:30.040 that are authorized to send email on my 00:10:31.560 =
behalf and because I put a comma in the 00:10:33.360 wrong place all of tha=
t is invalid and 00:10:35.800 all of the email starts going to junk 00:10:3=
7.320 mail and people are freaking out and all 00:10:38.880 that kind of st=
uff so so so the SPF list 00:10:43.200 is a big deal the deim and I I like =
what 00:10:46.560 you're saying the DM's a little easier 00:10:48.079 becau=
se it's kind of like each each 00:10:50.760 place is like here's our key yo=
u throw 00:10:52.440 that in your DNS here's our key and in 00:10:54.920 re=
ality it's a cryptography key uh that 00:10:57.200 that it uses to add a li=
ttle signature 00:10:58.839 to every single email that they send as 00:11:0=
1.000 you um so so the reality of what's 00:11:04.800 happened I think Troy=
is as of February 00:11:08.760 things are just getting way more 00:11:11.8=
39 secure yeah so Google announced that 00:11:15.480 come February if you'r=
e sending more 00:11:17.160 than 5,000 bulk emails at once you need 00:11:2=
0.600 to have a DMT set up because yes you can 00:11:23.880 make it to the =
inbox without one but now 00:11:26.480 if you're trying to send more than 5=
,000 00:11:28.200 you're most likely going to spam now 00:11:30.519 this di=
dn't just get completely 00:11:32.160 implemented on February 1st is so 00:=
11:34.160 they're going to drip it out over the 00:11:35.320 course of this=
year they even said that 00:11:37.200 by June they expected it to be 100% =
00:11:39.920 complete but nobody really knows what 00:11:41.399 the status =
is currently because Google 00:11:43.440 is very hush about totally um so t=
hat's 00:11:47.959 kind of the status yeah it's like you 00:11:49.639 just =
get one De Record from each place 00:11:52.079 that you send from and it's =
just a 00:11:53.360 simple text record txt um that you copy 00:11:56.600 an=
d paste and put into your DNS then the 00:11:59.360 SPF is kind of like the=
keychain because 00:12:01.560 you put all the different keys on one 00:12:=
04.200 record and then debark is just like your 00:12:06.600 security polic=
y or like your alarm 00:12:08.399 system for example so that's how I like 0=
0:12:10.519 to break it down for people but yeah um 00:12:13.560 these are =
things that are not going to 00:12:14.959 guarantee that you make it into t=
he 00:12:17.000 inbox but there are things that you 00:12:18.360 should set=
up right away as a 00:12:20.440 prerequisite before you even start 00:12:2=
2.160 sending email yeah that that that 00:12:24.519 actually you make me y=
ou made me think 00:12:26.519 of something that there is no guarant 00:12:2=
9.680 that you're going into the Inbox and 00:12:31.199 that's what I'm com=
ing back to like when 00:12:33.320 you roll out Demar people will start 00:=
12:35.199 thinking you're a male magician like huh 00:12:37.720 it all just=
starts working but all 00:12:40.120 you've done is increased the reputatio=
n 00:12:42.199 of the email to at least enough like if 00:12:45.519 like on=
e of the things Troy was saying 00:12:46.880 is you have your options when =
it comes 00:12:48.519 to Demar of none quarantine and reject 00:12:52.279 u=
m and what I'm seeing a lot of people 00:12:54.000 do is they're like oh ye=
ah to implement 00:12:55.920 Demar just turn on and put none in there 00:12=
:58.880 and that's working right now but again 00:13:02.440 as that tourniq=
uet turns Tighter and 00:13:04.199 Tighter and Tighter Google Yahoo 00:13:0=
6.720 everything else is going to try and 00:13:08.000 point you to that 00=
:13:10.440 so the reputation that your email has 00:13:14.959 yeah it depen=
ds on Demar but there's a 00:13:17.639 whole bunch of other things and I Tr=
oy I 00:13:19.399 think that's that's where you've got 00:13:21.240 that's =
your specialty is how do how do 00:13:24.000 you how do you make sure that =
so let me 00:13:27.040 ask you that because that's the killer 00:13:28.120 =
question everybody's like you know now 00:13:29.839 you've got not just the=
junk mailbox but 00:13:33.519 you also have the Inbox and the other or 00:=
13:36.160 the promo or the whatever tab you know 00:13:38.360 all the email=
providers are trying to 00:13:41.079 make email great again right and so s=
o 00:13:44.000 how do how do you get your emails in the 00:13:48.199 inbox =
yeah so to be clear before I 00:13:50.759 acquired mail genius.com um my fo=
und or 00:13:53.720 my partner Jesse was the founding member 00:13:55.440 o=
f that so uh prior to that um I've run 00:13:58.720 an email Emil Agency fo=
r the last five 00:14:00.880 years called email paramedic and we're 00:14:0=
3.079 rebranding right now if the if the 00:14:05.320 domain goes through e=
mail marketing.com 00:14:07.360 I really hope it does but point is I've 00:=
14:09.839 been doing all types of email markeing 00:14:11.839 for the last =
five years right so I've 00:14:13.560 gotten really good at selling um when=
it 00:14:15.600 comes to working with companies who have 00:14:17.079 thei=
r own email list and now we're 00:14:18.600 getting really good at doing co=
ld emails 00:14:20.279 so reaching out to people who don't know 00:14:22.19=
9 us and trying to book calls right so um 00:14:25.040 the biggest thing th=
at affects 00:14:26.720 deliverability when you're trying to do 00:14:28.51=
9 either one of those two things is your 00:14:30.759 reputation like you s=
aid there's two 00:14:32.440 reputations there's the domain 00:14:33.959 re=
putation and there's the IP reputation 00:14:36.639 now if you're just star=
ting out um we'll 00:14:38.600 talk about the IP reputation first 00:14:40.=
680 because if you're brand new you're going 00:14:42.240 to be on a shared=
IP what that means is 00:14:44.639 for example if you're on active campaig=
n 00:14:47.079 uh they have IP pools so IP is like a 00:14:49.720 neighborh=
ood um where your account is 00:14:52.800 inside of their you know space of=
the 00:14:56.040 internet and they group all the 00:14:58.279 different se=
nders together so if you're 00:15:00.120 new they kind of put you in like a=
low 00:15:01.880 to medium but if you've been sending for 00:15:03.800 a l=
ong time and you have demarked 00:15:05.880 implemented correctly and you g=
et really 00:15:07.759 high open rates you a lot of clicks a 00:15:09.920 l=
ot of replies nobody really reports you 00:15:12.040 to spam not many peopl=
e you know delete 00:15:15.279 the email before they read it like all 00:15=
:17.360 those things are going to bump up your 00:15:19.440 reputation and =
get you to a higher IP 00:15:22.759 reputation and at the same time all 00:=
15:25.160 those things will improve your domain 00:15:26.519 reputation bec=
ause your domain 00:15:28.040 reputation strict based on what you have 00:1=
5:30.440 done with your own domain so they both 00:15:32.759 affect each ot=
her but with that being 00:15:34.759 said it also works on the contrary rig=
ht 00:15:36.959 so if you do anything that seems a 00:15:39.319 little bit =
suspicious to Google like you 00:15:41.319 get a lot of spam complaints not=
many 00:15:43.079 people open your emails a lot of people 00:15:45.399 del=
ete them all those different things 00:15:47.839 it reduces the reputation =
of your domain 00:15:50.680 as well as um a lot of times you'll get 00:15:5=
3.240 demoted to a lower IP reputation and 00:15:56.440 this is especially =
important if you have 00:15:58.319 your own IP 00:15:59.519 uh because a lo=
t of people have private 00:16:00.959 IPS uh and anytime that you set up De=
mar 00:16:05.480 you also want to make sure that you warm 00:16:07.160 up s=
lowly because if you don't do that 00:16:09.680 if you just you know go fro=
m like hey 00:16:11.199 I've never sent an email from this 00:16:12.560 dom=
ain or um you just Implement Demar uh 00:16:17.000 and you just send to tho=
usands of people 00:16:18.800 on the first day that's another red flag 00:1=
6:21.319 that they look for so anytime you have a 00:16:22.800 new domain o=
r you implement Demar you 00:16:24.440 definitely want to warm up and just =
00:16:26.199 start with you know a few people on the 00:16:28.000 first day=
and then just keep doubling it 00:16:29.759 every day until you're at your=
desired 00:16:31.800 volume got it got it yeah and that so so 00:16:36.079=
what you see in a lot 00:16:37.920 of I'll call them Fishers a lot of 00:1=
6:40.319 fishers will just go register a new 00:16:41.880 domain that nobod=
y knows about and then 00:16:43.839 start blasting the world from this new =
00:16:45.440 domain trying to get people to click on 00:16:46.839 it and al=
l the I mean it's a cat and 00:16:48.519 mouse game all the email providers=
are 00:16:50.000 catching up to that so it it it makes 00:16:53.160 sense =
for a legitimate business to 00:16:54.920 slowly start stepping into that n=
ow I'll 00:16:57.880 tell you from our side in rolling out 00:16:59.759 Dem=
ar for companies in smaller 00:17:02.880 organization it's actually pretty =
easy a 00:17:05.160 lot a lot of times we're like you don't 00:17:06.919 ev=
en need us to to do it for you just 00:17:09.439 you know do these things a=
nd all that 00:17:11.199 what I found and I've actually talked to 00:17:13.=
760 a number of it folks um so so here's the 00:17:16.919 thing this is thi=
s it's probably 00:17:20.199 backwards but uh it says reject if you 00:17:2=
2.240 read backwards um that's the the 00:17:24.559 Pinnacle of Demar is wh=
ere you can say 00:17:26.919 Demar equals reject and what that does 00:17:3=
0.000 is tell all the email servers of the 00:17:32.400 world if it's not o=
n my DeMark list 00:17:35.559 immediately throw it away don't even 00:17:36=
.960 look at it like if if it's saying it's 00:17:38.559 coming from my dom=
ain reject it your 00:17:41.320 email reputation goes up even more when 00:=
17:43.480 you do that and it makes a nutshell an 00:17:46.400 impenetrable =
fishing Fortress to where 00:17:48.679 no one can send from your domain or =
00:17:51.039 pretend to send from your domain uh if 00:17:53.559 they're no=
t authorized and hang on hang 00:17:55.039 on sidebar um a lot of people ar=
e like 00:17:57.960 Demar is the the end of fishing and that 00:18:01.520 i=
t's not I guess in one sense it's true 00:18:05.360 in another sense it's n=
ot there's still 00:18:07.960 nothing that stops somebody from having 00:18=
:09.799 a Gmail address like Bob 5969 2 at uh 00:18:14.200 you know gmail.c=
om and putting the first 00:18:16.320 and last name is Elon Musk and like 0=
0:18:18.200 sending emails in as this you know and 00:18:20.600 people like=
oh look it's Elon like like 00:18:22.799 that's gonna that's going to alwa=
ys 00:18:24.120 happen and the only way to stop that 00:18:25.840 because i=
t's legitimate email email it's 00:18:28.120 is education right but you can=
not send 00:18:31.320 from in this case mg or mail genius or 00:18:33.640 w=
hatever domain you're talking about 00:18:35.280 once you've deployed dmart=
correctly so 00:18:37.600 back on on off the sidebar um the the 00:18:41.6=
00 the thing that I've seen and I've talked 00:18:43.440 to a couple it guy=
s is they're like this 00:18:46.559 is not something I'm willing to do and =
00:18:49.080 and I've heard it twice from two 00:18:50.400 different guys t=
hey said nobody gets 00:18:53.320 fired for an email going to junk but I 00=
:18:57.039 get fired if I flip that thing to and we 00:18:59.440 missed som=
ebody over there that the was 00:19:01.559 the CEO's pet project and our la=
test 00:19:04.039 marketing campaign or whatever goes to 00:19:06.200 spam =
everywhere like like I'm not doing 00:19:08.640 it and and so that's where =
we've been 00:19:10.799 brought in many times because rolling 00:19:12.400 =
out Demar what I what I 00:19:15.400 find and I don't know if you've run in=
to 00:19:17.360 this too Troy but it's a lot more 00:19:19.919 communicatio=
n and project management 00:19:22.080 than it is technology like the tech o=
f 00:19:25.039 it is actually not too bad but it's 00:19:27.679 figuring ou=
t where is all of our email 00:19:30.320 coming from and and that's that's =
one of 00:19:32.000 the things is like how do you it's one 00:19:35.440 of =
the questions we were thinking about 00:19:36.480 TR like how do you track =
your results 00:19:38.320 when you roll out Demar or how do you 00:19:41.00=
0 how do you find all these sources any 00:19:43.520 any idea yeah so you'r=
e right the very 00:19:45.919 first step especially with a smaller 00:19:47=
.520 organization would just be to ask around 00:19:49.559 be like hey what=
are the different 00:19:50.640 platforms we use and once you find those 00=
:19:52.520 platforms um if you've done this before 00:19:55.280 or if you h=
ave you know somebody like me 00:19:56.919 or Jeremy guiding you it's prett=
y simple 00:19:59.360 to set up the tech but if it's a a 00:20:01.720 prett=
y large organization then sometimes 00:20:04.159 you would need tools to he=
lp you figure 00:20:06.039 out where these things are coming from 00:20:07.=
919 so actually you can change your Demar 00:20:10.200 record um so it actu=
ally sends a report 00:20:12.840 now the report is not going to be 00:20:14=
.320 something you can read it's something 00:20:15.760 that computers can =
read so um what you 00:20:17.960 can do is uh basically set that report 00:=
20:21.559 to go to a specific email address and 00:20:23.760 there's compan=
ies out there like we 00:20:25.080 don't do this yet like we'll give you a =
00:20:27.080 full breakdown of your DeMark of set up 00:20:28.919 correctly=
at mail.com but there's 00:20:31.360 companies like easy DeMark you can ju=
st 00:20:33.200 set it to their email address if you 00:20:35.159 have thei=
r monthly subscription and then 00:20:37.240 they'll kind of like translate=
it to 00:20:38.960 English for you um so you can see like 00:20:41.559 oh =
it looks like somebody tried to send 00:20:44.440 uh an email with this dom=
ain and it got 00:20:46.840 blocked so you like oh we forgot about 00:20:48=
.720 that one or you could be like oh like 00:20:51.159 somebody was trying=
to spoof us or 00:20:52.960 somebody was trying to fish so those are 00:20=
:55.520 the different ways that um you could use 00:20:57.480 it yeah and a=
ctually that's one of the 00:20:59.679 things I want to make sure everybody=
00:21:01.400 gathers from this um Demar is like when 00:21:04.760 you when=
you really get what it is it's 00:21:07.480 pretty awesome like you create=
a DNS 00:21:10.440 record that literally impacts the entire 00:21:13.159 G=
lobe like your one little DeMark 00:21:15.000 message tells every email ser=
ver of the 00:21:17.520 world if you get an email from me report 00:21:20.5=
59 it back and that's where you can like 00:21:22.679 you you gave an examp=
le of easy DeMark 00:21:24.400 there's probably a hundred of those kind 00:=
21:26.640 of things out there and all the email 00:21:28.240 servers when a=
nd whenever they get an 00:21:29.880 email from from you or your domain 00:=
21:32.440 they'll send a little report back to 00:21:34.279 easy Demar or w=
hatever vendor you're 00:21:36.120 using which will graph it all out and 00=
:21:38.279 say okay like a thousand emails from 00:21:40.200 your domain ca=
me from that server and 00:21:41.720 and 10 from this one there's some weir=
d 00:21:43.559 ones coming from that one 100,000 came 00:21:45.919 from thi=
s and you can see the times of 00:21:47.320 months and all that and that's =
one of 00:21:48.520 the things when you're rolling out Demar 00:21:50.559 i=
t's not like a okay we're going to do 00:21:52.320 this and then tomorrow y=
ou're done you 00:21:54.799 kind of go on a discovery Mission if you 00:21:=
57.840 will you flip on this little dis dis I 00:22:00.279 call it Discover=
y discovery mode for 00:22:02.159 Demar where you you're just watching cuz =
00:22:04.600 you're I mean I mean we're talking about 00:22:06.720 like sma=
ll domains like mail genius and 00:22:08.640 things like that but there's d=
omains out 00:22:10.159 I mean think of think of somebody like 00:22:11.640=
Cisco or Microsoft or I don't know big 00:22:15.320 company X like like th=
ey probably have 00:22:18.240 hundreds of vendors that are sending on 00:22=
:20.360 their behalf and so it's it's almost 00:22:22.080 like a full resea=
rch project to figure 00:22:23.960 out where are all these guys so that we =
00:22:26.279 can make them all Demar compliant so 00:22:28.120 that's that'=
s part of the game yeah 00:22:30.640 another free tool would be uh postmast=
er 00:22:33.000 dogo.com so that's Google postmaster um 00:22:36.720 as lon=
g as you have Demar set up you can 00:22:39.039 get some free reports uh an=
d that'll 00:22:41.400 show you your domain reputation IP 00:22:43.960 repu=
tation spam rate 00:22:46.760 authentication uh any delivery errors 00:22:4=
9.360 things like that and it'll tell you um 00:22:52.279 it if you're gene=
rally passing like what 00:22:54.279 percentage of the time for you know SP=
F 00:22:56.400 D and dmark but it won't necessarily 00:22:59.240 tell you w=
here those are coming from so 00:23:01.559 that's where you'd have to pay f=
or a 00:23:02.919 subscription to something like eect 00:23:04.799 Market y=
eah got it have you had I'm 00:23:07.120 curious Troy have you had any Dema=
r roll 00:23:09.440 outs gone bad yet gone bad no it's like 00:23:13.919 we=
really try to emphasize to people 00:23:16.640 that hey you have to like t=
ell us 00:23:19.400 everything otherwise there's going to be 00:23:21.360 i=
ssues that come up so um no we haven't 00:23:23.840 had any like Mass campa=
igns go out with 00:23:26.440 delivery erors you know to thousands of 00:23=
:28.240 people because we check all that stuff 00:23:30.240 with a test ema=
il you'd be surprised how 00:23:32.400 many different mistakes you can catc=
h 00:23:34.080 with a test email um so like always do 00:23:37.200 that if =
you're sending a really 00:23:38.440 important email or to a lot of people =
00:23:40.600 because the other thing that you may not 00:23:41.799 to think=
about is if you do send not 00:23:44.480 only is that an opportunity cost =
that 00:23:46.480 you just missed out on but you can also 00:23:48.640 dama=
ge your domain if you send out an 00:23:50.520 email and something goes wro=
ng it goes 00:23:52.679 to the wrong people it gets marked to 00:23:54.279 =
spam it gets completely blocked there's 00:23:56.159 a lot of things that c=
an happen there 00:23:58.039 yeah and and I'm I'm giving Troy's I me 00:24:=
01.640 that's why I'm here is is I'm giving 00:24:03.400 Troy's company a c=
ompletely Shameless 00:24:05.039 plug because he's 100% right like when I 0=
0:24:07.320 first saw mail genius I sent a test 00:24:09.679 email to it an=
d I was like oh that's 00:24:10.880 pretty cool and like it didn't hit me 0=
0:24:13.360 like what what little piece of gold I 00:24:15.279 had discover=
ed right there um and and 00:24:17.600 until it was and actually I was like=
oh 00:24:19.760 cool it's like an email tester because 00:24:21.600 there'=
s lots of things similar to that 00:24:24.039 out there um but it wasn't un=
til we had 00:24:27.320 customers so so I asked you did you have 00:24:29.2=
79 demart go B I did um so we had a 00:24:31.520 customer who we did a disc=
overy we 00:24:33.159 thought we found all of them and they 00:24:34.720 we=
re like so anxious to get it to Demar 00:24:37.000 equals reject they're li=
ke just do it 00:24:38.679 dude just I'm like we've only done it 00:24:40.6=
40 for 30 we've only monitored for I'm like 00:24:42.520 are you sure and h=
e's like yeah just do 00:24:44.279 it and so so we flip it and a couple 00:=
24:46.760 days go by we're like sweet awesome and 00:24:49.120 all of a sud=
den we get this frantic call 00:24:50.799 like stop it undo it like like so=
that's 00:24:53.960 where it can go wrong is because if you 00:24:56.000 f=
orget somebody and they send a blast of 00:24:58.480 of you know 3,000 emai=
ls out not only do 00:25:01.919 all of those essentially get eliminated 00:=
25:04.600 I mean they they get terminated by by 00:25:06.559 all the email =
servers but it immediately 00:25:08.960 impacts the reputation of that emai=
l 00:25:10.919 server and whoever is managing that is 00:25:12.880 like wha=
t what the heck just happened 00:25:14.600 and so they're going to Conta so=
it it's 00:25:16.480 one of those like H like just just take 00:25:18.679 =
your time on that but back to maale 00:25:20.320 genius that's where I was =
like man now I 00:25:22.919 like initially I was like why would you 00:25:2=
4.520 ever buy this cuz I think it gives you 00:25:25.960 like I don't know=
 510 like free test or 00:25:28.640 something like that I'm like why I I I =
00:25:30.799 didn't get it and that that's where once 00:25:33.440 I got it=
I was like okay this is sweet 00:25:35.679 where you can actually go to a =
customer 00:25:37.440 and just exactly what Troy was saying 00:25:39.320 li=
ke before you blast this email out to 00:25:41.200 3,000 people just test i=
t first just 00:25:43.880 make sure that you're not like you don't 00:25:45=
.919 have like too many hyperlinks or too 00:25:47.840 many like a photo in=
 there that's like 00:25:50.000 like that's what it's useful for and I'm 00=
:25:51.679 like ah now that makes total sense and 00:25:54.399 like I'm lik=
e that should be like in the 00:25:55.840 back pocket of just about any mar=
keting 00:25:57.640 company so anyway that's that's my quas 00:26:00.600 Sh=
ameless plug for your own company 00:26:03.320 thank you I appreciate that =
yeah it's 00:26:05.039 nice the reason I acquired mail genius 00:26:07.039 =
is because I used to use it all the time 00:26:08.640 and I was like I know=
there's a lot of 00:26:10.440 people that this would help and I know 00:26=
:11.919 there's a lot of people in general that 00:26:13.159 use it because=
there's over a million 00:26:14.720 emails tested every single year so yea=
h 00:26:17.200 we check for SPF dkim DeMark Blacklist 00:26:21.640 uh for b=
oth the domain and IP um we 00:26:24.880 check for bad links we check for s=
pammy 00:26:27.240 language we check for images that are 00:26:28.960 too b=
ig and like countless other things 00:26:31.559 that could be wrong with an=
email and I 00:26:33.559 tell people all the time I was like hey 00:26:35.=
399 make sure that you're testing often not 00:26:37.399 just once because =
those things change 00:26:39.080 every time and just because one email 00:2=
6:40.720 inboxes doesn't mean the next one well 00:26:42.640 so it's like r=
eally really important and 00:26:44.840 we're trying to build a suite of to=
ols 00:26:46.640 so people know that they could test 00:26:48.279 their ema=
ils and they're going to have 00:26:49.559 more confidence than ever that t=
hey're 00:26:51.360 going to hit the Inbox and we don't have 00:26:52.799 t=
o you know worry tomorrow or next week 00:26:54.880 or next month next year=
 awesome and and 00:26:57.640 that's that's where where I think we'll 00:26=
:59.679 we'll uh wind down and that's that's 00:27:01.559 what we do uh we =
are we are the ones 00:27:03.679 that uh walk through rolling out email 00:=
27:07.559 or roll rolling out DeMark and making 00:27:09.880 sure email is =
solid across the whole 00:27:11.919 organization and and I would say it's 0=
0:27:13.399 only for groups that are a little larger 00:27:15.640 like we w=
e've had folks come and you 00:27:17.399 know oh we send email from there a=
nd 00:27:18.960 there I'm like but just fig I don't want 00:27:21.440 say f=
igure that out but but do that 00:27:22.720 yourself like we're happy to he=
lp but 00:27:24.679 that's something that's no problem what 00:27:26.760 wh=
at we've done is when somebody signs 00:27:29.080 up for our dmic service w=
e assign a 00:27:30.760 full-on project manager uh because 99% 00:27:34.080=
of the game is communication and okay 00:27:36.360 we've got this oh we fo=
und another one 00:27:37.799 who's in charge of that who who did that 00:27=
:39.440 for your domain and just communication 00:27:41.519 communication w=
hich it folks are 00:27:44.760 infamously uh uh tagged as as not being 00:2=
7:47.559 the greatest at so we project manage the 00:27:49.679 whole thing =
and get it all rolled out to 00:27:51.960 where you eventually can get to D=
emar 00:27:53.640 equals reject for your organization 00:27:56.200 without =
accidentally getting fired so 00:27:58.640 that's what we do um so so that =
said I 00:28:01.760 think I mean Troy and I are talking 00:28:03.279 right =
now I think there's going to be a 00:28:04.480 landing page by time it's in=
and done 00:28:05.840 below this video feel free to click that 00:28:07.88=
0 link and it can take you in in either 00:28:10.080 direction either to Vi=
a or to mail 00:28:11.919 genius and uh best of luck rolling out 00:28:14.9=
60 to uh rolling out Demar to uh you in the 00:28:17.640 future Troy any la=
st words um I 00:28:21.000 appreciate it thank you yeah just click 00:28:22=
.919 that link you can join my email list and 00:28:25.279 Jeremy's email l=
ist uh so you can try on 00:28:27.679 mail genius get three three tests and=
00:28:30.000 then whatever Jeremy is going to send 00:28:31.720 you um esp=
ecially if you got a larger 00:28:33.559 organization he can actually imple=
ment 00:28:35.679 the policy for you awesome cool well 00:28:38.600 thanks =
Troy it's been awesome uh it's 00:28:40.720 it's fun because I was like wow=
I can I 00:28:42.640 can draw while somebody else is talking 00:28:44.200 =
normally I'm just doodling talking to 00:28:46.559 myself it was great go s=
o maybe we could 00:28:48.960 do this again in the future all right 00:28:5=
1.039 thank you Jeremy appreciate it all right 00:28:52.880 talk to you all=
 soon
